The children have been learning all about the life cycle of a caterpillar into a butterfly. We were lucky enough to have caterpillars in school for the children to watch and observe. Over the few weeks that we’ve had them, the caterpillars have shed their skins several times and grown from tiny caterpillars into huge, furry caterpillars! They then made a chrysalis around themselves which the children found fascinating. Eventually, the caterpillars emerged from their chrysalises and the children were thrilled to see them as butterflies when the came into school in the morning.
We then took the butterflies outside so that we could release them into the wild! The children understood that this was so that the butterflies could lay their own eggs for the life cycle to start all over again!
