Year 4 Home Learning Week Commencing 13th July

Hello Year 4,

We can’t believe the final week of you being Year 4 is here. You have all been absolute superstars! Thank you for continuing to work hard over the last few months. We have missed you all but we are confident that you are ready now to enter Year 5. We have loved speaking with you on the phone and hearing all about the activities you have been doing at home. We know it has been a very different year but you have all been wonderful and adapted to the changes.

Our post is a little bit different this week. You will have found out who your teacher is for next year and seen a video from them to tell you a little bit about what to expect in Year 5. Our tasks this week are designed to help you think about your transition into a new year group. They will be a mixture of looking forward and also remembering information from Year 4.

Remember to keep safe and keep smiling!

Task 1

It would be fantastic if you could make your new teacher a poster that tells them all about you. Use the picture below to help guide you with your design or be creative and design your own. You could complete your poster as a self-portrait by filling the outline of your head with drawings of the things you love. Have a look at the 2 pictures for inspiration.

Task 2

We would like you to think about some questions you have about returning to school. These might include some questions for your new teachers. We have written a few examples of questions you might have.

What will our class reader be? Will we get to choose our lockers? Where do we put our reading records?

Task 3

We would like you to think of 3 targets for yourself to complete in Year 5. Think about how you will achieve these targets. You could write them on a piece of paper to remind you of them throughout the year. We would also like you to make a list of 3 dreams you have for Year 5. What would you like to happen next year?

Task 4

We would love you to leave some comments about your favourite memories from Year 4. We love hearing all about the things that made you smile the most. We are proud of each and every one of you and will miss you all incredibly next year.

Task 5

We often used memory or concept maps like the one below to help us remember things. We would like you to try to make a map for each of the topics we covered this year. You might want to use your Knowledge Organisers to help you. They can be found on our school website (http://www.ectonbrookprimary.ik.org/curriculum.html). Here is a list of topics for you to make a memory map for:

  • Science – States of matter, the digestive system, electricity and sound.
  • History – The Vikings and the Ancient Egyptians
  • Geography – Rainforests

Things to remember

As you enter Year 5, it is really important for you to remember some key facts from Year 4. We have included a list of the Year 3/4 spellings list as well as a multiplication rainbow. You will have access to your TT Rockstars account all summer so you will be able to log on and keep practising.

I can’t remember any precise moments because of the pandemic.
