Dear parents and pupils. We hope that you have all been keeping well and enjoying this wonderful weather that we have been having over the Easter holidays. We have been busy preparing some resources to support you at home. Please take time to have a look at the following:
We have been very fortunate and now have access to Scholastic Reading Library online allowing you to access lots of different books on their website. We would like you to try hard to login to this at least three times in the week. We have sent an email of instructions to your grown ups and they can also read about it here.
In addition, we would like to encourage you to continue reading your own books everyday. Remember: information books count as reading too!
In grammar we learned about co-ordinating conjunctions and subordinating conjunctions. We used the acronyms FANBOYS for co-ordinating conjunctions and A white bus for subordinating conjunctions. We would like the children to design and write their own posters for these to help them remember them.
In phonics, we have been looking at Phase 5a split digraphs. These sites will help for phonics games:
In spellings, we would like the children to look for and create a list of 5 words ending in -sure to learn such as treasure and 5 words ending in -ture such as furniture. The children need to use the strategies that they have been taught to help them such as:
drawing the outline
writing the sentence in context.
We would like the children to create a fictional creature and then write an information text about it using these headings (there is one per day):
Appearance – what it looks like.
Behaviour – how it acts.
Habitat- where it lives.
Diet – what it eats.
Special features- Does it have a power? What makes it unique?
We would like to remind children that they can still use their TT Rockstars logins and Emile logins:
In addition, here are some times tables resources. Further ones can be found on the Free Twinkle Home school pack:
We were about to start fractions with the children in class. here are some resources and lessons that may help:
White rose: Please look at week 1. you can find the links here:
We would like the children to think about what solids, liquids and gases are. Can they find 5 materials that are solid or a liquid? Can they think of 3 that might be a gas? What makes these materials solids, liquids or gases? Water is something that can exist as a solid, liquid and a gas. Can you work together to show how?
Watch this video to help you understand:
In addition, we would recommend that you try to stay active. Many children are following the Joe Wicks routine, which can be found on his Youtube channel here:
Art and well-being:
Take a look outside, either from your window, or on your daily walk for exercise. Can you spot 4 signs of spring? Look up at the trees and sky, down at the ground and plants. Can you draw what you see? Take your time to make close observations and use the skills from our pencil dictionaries to make a detailed drawing. Remember not to disturb any widlife or pick any plants and wash your hands thoroughly after being outside. You can still sing the Spring Chicken song whilst washing!
We miss you all so very much and hope all of you are safe and well. Lots of love
All of the Year 3 team
