Freeze Frame Drama

The children have started the term by diving straight into William Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet. We have been using drama as a whole school and in class to help the children immerse themselves in the characters and the story line. Today, the children performed the play from beginning to end by dividing into smalls groups. They then created a freeze frame of their scene while the teacher narrated in more detail. The children were shocked by the ending so we talked about the type of play it is. We agreed that term ‘tragedy’ was a very appropriate word. Despite the play’s gloomy ending, the children had a fantastic time and are really enjoying the play.
